- edited August 2015I am having the exact same problem when I try to run Rome Total War.
- edited August 2015I was also plagued with this dilemma, and finding that the preferences fix didn't work, I dug a bit deeper.
It turns out that this issue can be fixed by removing the disk check from the game's executable(s). You can find these executables at www.gamecopyworld.com, a rather dodgy looking site, but reasonably reliable (just make sure your anti-malware software is running).
After finding the appropriate executable, simply replace your old .exe with the new one and voilà! It should work fine. At least, that's what fixed my game.
Furthermore, for your convenience, I have attached the fixed executable for the base game (the files are too big to upload all of them at once). I know, I'm a hero, no need to thank me.:cool:

As you pointed out Windows 10 does not accept most old CD DRMs for security purpose and therefore ROME: Total War is unplayable and if you uninstall it, it won't instal again.
